There are a few different ways that you can get out on the water. It’s an excellent place to try something new, or you can stick with what you know. Options include
You hire fee include the hire of one wet suit. If you plan to share a board, you can hire a second wet suit for a small extra cost.
These hold one person. They are suitable for anyone over the age of 10.
There are both 2 and 3 person canoes for hire.
Their rowboats seat a maximum of five people
If you want to hire a sailboat, you are expected to know how to sail one already.
While out on the water, you will be expected to wear a safety vest at all times. There are wetsuits available for hire if you want one.
If you are a little unsure about going out on the water alone, you can book a group trip with an instructor. These are available for kayaking, canoeing and stand up paddleboards. Spaces are limited, so book early.
From Ravenscraig Guest House, it’s straightforward to get to Loch Morlich Watersports. You just head south out of Aviemore and then take a left onto the B970. In around 10 minutes you reach the loch. The beach you’re looking for is on the far corner of the water.
Whichever activities you want to do it’s a good idea to book in advance. In summer it gets jam-packed. If you will be wearing a wetsuit, you may want to arrive wearing your swimsuit to make changing easier. Just don’t forget dry clothes and a towel for afterwards.
There is a cafe with changing rooms and toilets on the beach. They serve some lovely home-baked goods and sandwiches for when you work up an appetite while out on the water.
