At Ravenscraig Guest House, we get excited every year when the end of August approaches. If you’re staying with us on the last weekend in August, you’re in for a treat. Just fifteen minutes walk into Aviemore, and you’ll find yourself in the middle of a unique and exciting event. Thunder In The Glens is a three-day Harley Davidson extravaganza. There is entertainment, stalls, food, a custom bike show and a big Ride Out. Even if you aren’t a motorcycle maniac, this event is worth checking out.
Live bands play every night from Friday to Sunday. The event is so big that some huge international acts will even play. The lineup is always a great mix of local and international talent. It makes for a great evening out.
There is a real festival vibe the whole weekend. As you wander around you can marvel at all the bikes, the people and just soak up the atmosphere. If you head into the rally grounds proper, you will find a custom bike show where some of the more exciting bikes are shown off. If you ask nicely, you may even be able to get a picture sat on your favourite bike.
The Ride Out is on Saturday at noon. Riders taking part meet up just off Aviemore highstreet. If you want to take part, you need to sign up in advance. The Dunedin HOG (Harley-Davidson Owners Group) run the event, and welcome any bikers to join them. It’s a bucket-list activity for many bikers. There’s nothing quite like cruising along the Speyside roads with a massive cavalcade of other bikers.
Before the Ride Out begins, the streets start to fill. By the time the bikes set off, the streets are fully lined with excited spectators cheering and clapping as the bikes go by. If you want to get a good spot you need to arrive in good time.
Aviemore and the surrounding villages get overrun with fascinating stalls for the duration. There are bikes, jeeps, food, crafts and charity stalls everywhere you look. So you really don’t need to know the first thing about bikes to be able to enjoy the largest motorbike rally in Europe!
